With the conclusion of the 2010 Indiana University Little 500 Race, the women of Mezcla have began training for the summer cycling season. The team will be competing at various USAC-sanctioned events over the summer, and fans should keep checking the ‘Events’ page on our site for more information as it becomes available.

Please join us this Wednesday at 6 pm on the front lawn at La Casa Latino Cultural Center, for an informational meeting with Team Mezcla.

Team Mezcla started in 1995, and was the first Latino team to enter into the Little 500 bike race. Since then many students have competed for Mezcla as not only a way to stay competitive and healthy, but a means to participate in the largest intramural event in the country!

We would like all interested cyclists and runners (of all abilities, male and female) to meet some past Mezcla participants, as they share their experiences about their participation in the Little 50 and Little 500 races.

Even if you have not been on a bike in years, do not let that stop you!

This year’s women’s Mezcla team placed 22nd in the final standings. After finishing in 30th place the previous year, the team improved eight places in what was to be the best finish in Mezcla Women’s history. While the team had hoped to break into the top fifteen this year, they are more than confident they have a strong foundation and are more than ready to achieve their goal next year. Each year we hope to improve upon our past performance.

The women’s race is Friday April 24, 2009 at 4pm, and the men’s race is at 3pm on Saturday April 25, 2009. The $25 price tag includes tickets to both the Men and Women’s Little 500 races, and the Men and Women’s Little 50 races held Thursday April 23, 2009 at 7pm. All events will be held at the Bill Armstrong Stadium, near Assembly Hall. Mezcla hopes to have fans from all over the state present supporting us! See you at the race!

Mezcla Cycling announced Tuesday that it will be fielding a team in the 2009 Women’s Little 500 Race and Spring Series hosted at Bill Armstrong Stadium, which is located on the campus of Indiana University Bloomington.
