Team Biographies

GM/ Head Coach: John Segovia
Occupation: Digital Strategy Consultant, Plutone Web Solutions

John attended his first Little 500 race while visiting some high school friends who attended Indiana University in 2003. Four years later after returning from the US Navy and Operation Iraqi Freedom, he used his leadership abilities to help reestablish the women’s Mezcla team. During the last four years as coach the women’s team has improved tremendously each year. Most notably jumping eight spots in the 2009 race to finish 22nd, the best in our young team’s history. With an excellent showing at the 2009 Fall Series, John has continued his commitment to Mezcla. With his sights set on breaking into the Top 15 for the first time in team history, John knows the team has a lot of work to do to achieve this goal. In addition to having a solid group of veterans returning, the Mezcla team is looking forward to the summer cycling season.

John believes in helping his team not only in the sport of cycling, but outside the sport as well. His desire to see his team not only succeed in the race, but also in the classroom. His belief that the discipline required to be successful in the sport of cycling, will help his riders also be successful in all future activities that they participate. He promotes positive mental attitudes among his riders, and teaches his riders to be accountable for their actions. John’s vision for Mezcla is to not only be recognized as a minority team participating in the race, but more importantly a competitive team that is racing with the ultimate goal of someday winning the Little 500.
